you can go to another country and be whoever you want to be; it doesnt matter where you are from, right?
The visual concept is based around the dancers identity, body and movements. These concepts are divided into 2 different groups.
By one hand video loops from the dancers memories, body movements and expressions, and by the other hand live movement is captured.
Both visual groups are combined and together they build the performance’s narrative. They are also in total sync with the dancers movements and react to the sound.
The video loops are made of photos and videos details shoots from Natalia, that later were edited and sequenced in real time during the performance.
The live movements are captured with a Xbox Kinect camera. A point cloud image of the dancer is used as the representation of the dancer identity, in a way that the dancer can dance with herself.
What are you doing, Miguel?
The sound design started to be discussed from the moment I’ve been invited to this project with Natalia. At first the idea was making a fixed track for the performance. “Ants” by edIT is an amazing tune that Natalia wanted to include in the performance so after seeing all the possibilities we’ve decided to do live music, including this track.
I’ve used Logic as main software where I had already sequenced voices of people talking about issues concerning Identity. Besides this I’ve played live percussive sounds, leads & pads (VST from Logic) in a way the sound would follow Natalia’s movement.
X: I´m from England, therefore..I am, English.
DONDE ERES TU?
How do you feel about being...English?
Y: Being British is something to be proud of...but also, something, to be ashamed of.
When you go to another country, and you see US disrespecting another culture...
Its, cosmopolitian. England is England and Great Britain is great, because...
I am proud to be English because, its part of who I am, its made me who I am.
X: Whats your perception of, English people?
Z: Yo soy de Argentino, por supuesto. I dont have one. Each one ive met has been unique...but in general, theyre LOUD. FUNNY. I like your accent.
X: If I tell you I´m English, do you, expect something of me?
W: It depends, but I find good in English people. I think you people are very different people. The people are different to the stereotype. The hooligans, the fucking, the football. But its, not so much that. But yes,. you are so different to us Latin people.
Z: Before meeting English people, I thought of them, as angry people. But, its wrong. You are good.
